Day 22: Back to school

Sunday September 5th

We had a full off day from skating today which turned out to be
perfect timing.  It gave Mark 1 more day off before getting back on
the road, it gave Matt a day to rest his legs, and it gave Cameron an
opportunity to take a day off and go to a doctor’s clinic to get some
antibiotics for a cut on his ankle that has become infected.

Luckily Cameron caught the infection right away and it does not seem
to be too serious, but will be uncomfortable for him to skate for the
next few days while he waits for the swelling to go down as the
prescription kicks in.  Tomorrow marks 14 days since Mark’s injury and
he is cleared to attempt to begin getting back on his skates for a
couple kilometers to see how he feels.  It will be great to get him
back out on the road with us.

Since it was a day off there wasn’t a whole lot to report, however we
noted that since this is the labour day weekend school will be
starting up this week.  The start of the school year is always an
exciting time and wish all the youths who have previously taken part
in a Courage Canada learn to skate program to have another great year.
We look forward to continuing our partnerships with district school
board vision programs in BC and Ontario, and look forward to our new
partnership for the 2011 – 2012 year with the Atlantic Provincial
Special Education Authority (APSEA) in Halifax.

With our Courage Canada learn to skate programs set to begin in only 2
months, and the hockey season starting up for Canada’s blind hockey
teams, it has given us all a reminder of why we are doing the
campaign.  We look forward to having Mark back on the road with us
over the next couple of days, and are excited for our skate to
Nackawic tomorrow where the local Lions Club is hosting us for a pork
roast dinner.

Stay tuned…
