Thursday September 15th
Last night the sky’s opened and it poured, and poured, and continued
to pour through the morning and most of the day. We we’re holed up at
the campground in Montmagny waiting for the deluge to stop, when we
finally had enough and decided to skate in the rain. We donned our
new Reebok tracksuits, switched out our fresh wheels and bearings to
some older more worn ones, and had a great skate.
By the midpoint of the skate the rain stopped, and the sun even
started to peak out drying the shoulder. Speaking of the shoulder and
the roads near Quebec – a big thanks once again to our friend Francois
Beauregard from Les Hiboux de Montreal Blind Hockey team for providing
us with the cycling guide “La route verte” as we were treated to
smooth, wide and flat asphalt shoulders. In fact, tomorrow Francois
will be coming out to Quebec City to meet with us, and to help us plan
the rest of our Quebec leg, our upcoming fall blind hockey programs,
and he might even strap on his blades and skate with us for a bit.
Today’s skate was especially noteworthy as we crossed the 1000 km
threshold for the trip today which was fantastic, and is definitely a
great accomplishment. We’re looking forward to tomorrow’s skate as we
will be winding our way along the Levis river bank, and then head into
Quebec City for a day’s rest.
At the end of the day we headed to nearest campground, had some
barbecued chicken and rice for dinner, and called in an early night.
Tomorrow will be an early morning as we make our way into the capital
of Quebec.
Stay tuned…
