Help Make Hockey Accessible for a Blind Child this Winter
Courage Canada needs your support to help over 250 blind and visually-impaired youth across Canada get the equal opportunity to strap on their skates this hockey season.
By donating a minimum of $20.12 You will help Courage Canada cover the costs for:
- Ice rental
- equipment
- transportation
- instructors
- and more!
Upon donation you will receive an email or letter thanking you for your contribution and detailing the total number of youth you have helped in your region. You will also receive a Canadian Charitable tax-reciept if you are living inside the country.
About The Blind Youth Skating Program
Courage Canada continues to implement Learn to Skate programs for youth who are blind and visually impaired in regions all across Canada. The organization works collaboratively with Associations and District School Board Vision Programs to provide these youth with the opportunity to experience ice skating with other blind and visually impaired youth from their community. These learn-to-Skate programs take place on a monthly basis and provide these youth with the chance to interact with other youth who share a common, unique situation.
Our programs at Courage Canada aim to teach these youth the importance of living a healthy, active life by teaching them the basic fundamentals of skating, such as developing their edges, strides, cross overs and more. As part of our program, these students also take part in an off-ice leadership workshop where we work collaboratively with Vision teachers to conduct relative workshops to help these youth build character, confidence and leadership abilities, which they will take back with them to apply in their communities.
Courage Canada’s Learn-to-Skate programs provide an engaging experience which will ultimately help these youth who have a disability, realize their potential as people who need to advocate for what they believe both at home, school and in the community.
Courage Canada’s programs are funded nationally by corporate sponsorship, public donations and fundraising initiatives. Funds raised for Courage Canada go directly into our programs costs related to ice-time rental, skate/equipment, transportation and more.
